AZ-103 – Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate Exam – December 2019 Updates

As you may have heard, Microsoft recently made some changes to the AZ-103 course curriculum which you can download at https://query.prod.cms.rt.microsoft.com/cms/api/am/binary/RE3VwUR .

To summarize and save you going through the entire doc, below you’ll find curriculum changes and what it means for the AZ-103 Skylines Academy course

Configure policies at Azure subscription level
This update was just a wording change from the previous description. Policies have always been in the AZ-103 curriculum and are included in the Skylines Academy training course.

Create action groups and action rules
This update specifically calls out the creation of “action rules”. As of right now these are still in “PREVIEW” but are expected to be GA soon and Microsoft expects you to know about them for the exam. You can read more about them at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-monitor/platform/alerts-action-rules.

Utilize log queries in Azure Monitor
This has been renamed from Log Analytics and is still covered in the Skylines Academy AZ-103 course. I highly recommend you check out these lectures and demos as they will be immensely help in your job as an Azure Admin.

View alerts in Azure Monitor
Again, this is a change to Azure monitor but was already part of the course. Make sure you continue to enhance your knowledge around monitoring and alerting.

Storage: Implement Azure AD Authentication
This is a new update focusing on the ability to use Azure AD Authentication for Storage. This is covered in the updated AZ Copy v10 demo. I also suggest you review the following documentation section https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/common/storage-auth-aad.

VMs: Soft delete of Azure VMs
This is a new update to the curriculum and requires you to use Azure Backup. Details of this feature can be found at https://aka.ms/SoftDeleteCloudWorkloads. We will look to provide a video lecture/demo on this in the future.

Overall these changes are minimal, and the Skylines Academy course continues to cover all the core areas. Please use the links above to solidify your knowledge and expect to questions around these on the exam.

Good luck!
